Club BOX OFFICE 2008 What inspired the Box Office project? It became increasingly clear that ‘amateur' film making was developing with standards attaining levels way above the average enthusiasts' capabilities. A good percentage of enthusiasts loyally support clubs and the IAC and it’s their subscriptions that keep things going. Let’s face it, many have been making films or videos for years and not so long back, some were able to get respectable awards in national competitions. So this is where Box Office comes in. We at Shooters Hill asked ten clubs to send us a 30 minute show reel containing a minimum of three films, none of which may be more than ten minutes. The content to be selected for entertainment value rather than technical qualities. The films must have a beginning and end title and can be of any age but must not have won an award in a National Competition. We present the programmes to an audience of club members during a club meeting. Each spectator has one vote to mark out of 100 points to show how much they enjoyed and were entertained by the programme, and which film they liked the most. Nothing else, no constructive criticism or advice on what should or should not have been done, just an indication of how much the work was enjoyed. Entrants are given at least two months to prepare a show reel. There is no entrance fee, the only cost to entrants is the postage to send their show reel to us. We return the tape or disc quickly after the show date and advise how the programme was enjoyed as well as which film the audience enjoyed the most. The favourite film goes forward into the final show reel. A the end of the year the best Box Office programme and film of the year is announced and certificates awarded.
We are now in our third year and are fully booked for 2008 but if you would like to take
part in 2009 please let us know. 2008 Showdates and Results / 2007 Results/ 2006 Results
After each show, the name of the film voted best in showreel will be posted here.
