Farnborough Village Hall saw the highest ever attendance for a Grand Final
in this long running competition organised in the South by Orpington Video
& Film Makers.
Congratulations to the North for their third victory in a row - this time
with Grant Aid by Tynemouth Video Group. Second place
went to Sex, Lives & Videotape by Derby Movie Makers.
Apart from the Grand Final films themselves, the other Northern entries were
also shown as well as two extra films at the end of the day. There was a
raffle and excellent refreshments provided by Peggy Parmenter and her team.
We were particularly delighted that members of Derby Movie Makers, Wave at
Long Eaton, Nuneaton Moviemakers and Wanstead & Woodford CVC made the
journey to be with us in addition to the members of more local clubs whose
regular support we are very grateful for. Thank you one and all.
Controversy never seems far away where the North v South is concerned. Several
times in past years, the judges choice of winning film has been completely
different to that of the audience and so it was this year. The usual audience
vote was held and just 1 person from the 80 in attendance selected Grant
Aid. In the overall audience vote, the winning film came second to
last.
There was some consolation in the fact that the audience winner (by more
than double the votes of any of the other film) was placed 2nd by the judges.
With this third consecutive win for the North, Hugh Darrington of Southern
Script fame is now running out of hats to eat so Im calling on
all Southern clubs to help ensure that the John Wright trophy will be heading
down rather than up the M1 this year.
The theme for 2008 is Be Prepared. The closing date is
Saturday 1st November 2008 and provisional dates for the Southern Heat and
Grand Final are Sunday 23rd November 2008 and Sunday 25th January 2009
respectively. Rules and entry forms will be published in relevant regional
magazines or can be downloaded here:
