2008
Autumn Festival 8-9 November 2008
At the Esplanade Hotel, Scarborough. Guest speaker Michael Slowe.
 |
Aged 73, Michael has been making films ( 8mm. in 1964, 16mm. from 1970, now video) for over 40 years.
He became a Fellow of the IAC in the late 1970’s.
From the 1970s onwards a number of his films won major awards in international competitions including Movie Maker’s Ten Best and IAC International.
He mostly specialises in documentaries and “cut to music” impressionistic essays.
He took a 10 year break from filmmaking, returning to it in 1996 when digital video and particularly digital projectors gave results on a par with film.
|
Since his return he has had success in domestic and international film festivals with a number of videos. His style has not changed from his days with film but he now enjoys computer editing which makes the blending of music, effects and visuals so much faster and more precise. The whole process of post production from colour correction to audio balancing can all be done at home thus revolutionising the post production process.
He now films in the new HDV format in the modern 16:9 aspect ratio using a Sony Z1 camera and edits on Media 100 in uncompressed HD having converted the camera original HDV through the Convergent Design HD-Connect box. Productions are then mastered to HDCAM tape and down converted for Mini DV’s and DVD’s.
