PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE
Please note that the scheme is for clubs and club productions, not for individual
film makers.
The scheme was negotiated initially because clubs who wished to film in public places or even private premises found that if permission was needed, particularly from a local authority, it would not be granted unless they had a public liability insurance. The IAC has arranged a Block Policy to cover IAC Affiliated Clubs for Public Liability Insurance. It is intended to cover the club should a claim be made against them for an accident involving a member of the public or property belonging to a third party. It does not cover individual members of the club for accidental loss or damage to their own, or the club's photographic equipment. If, however, it can be proved that their negligence caused injury or damage to the property of a third party and that person or organisation sues for damages, all costs up to a maximum of £2,000,000 would be covered subject to the normal clauses and conditions of the Policy. As an extension, it covers food poisoning! If the club ever does any catering and by some mischance someone becomes ill as a result and they claim for damages, this is covered by the Policy. With our Block Policy, the basic premium is £55.50 per annum, payable on 1st October each year. For higher cover the rates increase - see top of the page. You may come into the scheme at any time but there is no reduction in the premium. In other words the year's premium is £55.50 (of £82 or £108) regardless of when the club takes it up.
