Licentiate status is earned by success in IAC's annual competition. The highest honour the Institute can pay is to bestow its fellowship. It is awarded to people who have made a special contribution to the amateur movie making scene. Fellowships are usually awarded at the Autumn Convention and at BIAFF. The IAC awards these distinctions for achievement in movie making and audio visual work:

Become a Licentiate ... use the letters LACI after your name - wear your success with pride! Licentiate is a special award granted by the IAC Council for achievement in the IAC International Film & Video Competition or the Geoffrey Round AV Competition.
The award is available for anyone who has achieved 2 Four Star or higher Awards - one or both of which may be pre-2008 Silver or higher Awards - in either competition.

Successful candidates may use the letters LACI after their name and receive an LACI Certificate. * Fellowships & Honorary Fellowships - FACI Applicants or nominees for this award must have at least five years full membership of the IAC (though rare exceptions are made for those outside IAC who have made a distinguished contribution to amateur movie making.) It is awarded in recognition of eminence or special expertise in some branch of cinematography, audio visual art or for special service to the IAC. Nomination or application letters, accompanied by detailed supporting information, must be received at the IAC office before 1st March for consideration at the summer Council meeting, or before 1st September for consideration at the autumn meeting. Nominations should be made in writing to Michael Gough FACI(M) IAC Fellowships Officer, 23,Meadow Lane, East Herrington, Sunderland SR3 3RQ. They are considered in confidence. If you have any queries please email fellowships@theiac.org.uk Nominations and applications are initially examined by the Fellowships Sub Committee but the final award is approved by the full IAC Council. Honorary Fellows are non-members of the IAC who have made significant contributions to the work of the IAC, or the hobby generally. Fellows and Honorary Fellows are entitled to use the letters FACI after their name. * They are presented with a certificate and Fellowship badge at the next national IAC event.
This distinction is granted by the IAC Council for outstanding attainment
in movie making and/or AV production. It is confined to applicants who are full individual or principal family members of the IAC with at least five years membership. Associate members, affiliated clubs or groups are not eligible.
Successful applicants receive a Fellowship certificate and badge at the next national IAC event. They may use the letters FACI(M) after their name and style themselves either "Master Movie-Maker" or “Master of Audio-visual Arts” or "Master of Film & Audio-visual Arts”. *

* Validity The awards of Fellowships and Licentiates only remain valid while the holder is a full member of the IAC. (Youth and Junior membership counts as full membership. Only the principal member of a family membership group is classified as a full member. Associate members, affiliated clubs or groups are not eligible..) The letters LACI, FACI and FACI (M) may only be used in an amateur context and not for commercial concerns. The principal role of the IAC is that of a service organisation for amateur movie and audio visual makers. It is not a qualifying body. Therefore, the use of the above post-nominal letters on business stationery or other media, whether the undertaking is concerned with the delivery of film, video or audio visual services or not, is not permitted. This distinction is in the gift of the IAC Council acting for UNICA - Union Internationale du Cinéma. (UNICA is an independent international organisation. It is a member of the authoritative UNESCO Council.) Each year a UNICA member federation may award a UNICA medal to somebody who has been actively engaged in the promotion of independent film-making.
