January 2008

4th January Closing date for BAFTA/ORANGE Sixty Second of Fame - your chance to be a guest at the BAFTA awards and have your work seen there. Details.
18th January Closing date for UNCIPAR - Argentina.For films up to 30 minutes. The main prize is the kit and materials to make a 16mm production.

19th January Closing date for THE MERSEY TEN COMPETITION - open to all in the North West Region of IAC for films up to ten minutes on any theme. See rules and details of the event - click here. Festival on 15th March.
20th January SURREY FILM-VIDEO FESTIVAL - at the Electric Theatre, Guildford. For details see www.surreyfilmfestival.org.uk Closing date was 10th December 2007.

At Farnborough Village Hall in Kent. Details.
28th January Closing date for SOCO REGIONAL FILM & VIDEO COMPETITION
Entry forms will be printed in the SoCo News magazine nearer that date. The SoCo Committee has discussed the possiblity of having an Audio-Visual Section. It may be possible to have this within the this competition or perhaps seperately - Views welcome even from outside the region especially with regard to the practicality of presenting it. If it was part of our annual competition entries would have to be playable on a standard DVD player.
The Cheltenham Club will be hosting the Award Winners Show on Saturday March 15th 2008 at the Reddings Community Centre - Doors open 19.00 for 19.30 start. Details will be on the regional website soon.

28th January Closing date for FROME FIVE MINUTE FESTIVAL
Entry forms will be available at the SoCo Weekender and from then on. The Festival Show and presentation of the AKM Trophy and Prize, will be on 5th April starting at 6pm in the Catholic Hall, Park Road, Frome. Click for details.
31st January Closing date for BIAFF - THE BRITISH INTERNATIONAL AMATEUR FILM FESTIVAL 2008
Any length, any subject, virtually any format. Entry forms in English, Dutch, French and German.
The festival showing a wide selection of the winners will be hosted by NERIAC at The Cairn Hotel, Harrogate. Details.

1st March VISION ON CHALLENGE FESTIVAL Festival show and presentation of the Challenge Shield. Details.
1st March Closing date for the FESTIVAL OF NATIONS 2008
The Festival of Nations is one of the most important film festival in Europe for non-commercial film makers. Last year it had more than 900 entries from 55 countries. Films from authors, who attend the festival, are given preference. No entry fee. Screenings 15th-21st June. For details click here.

8th March SERIAC FILM FESTIVAL at Tonbridge Oast Theatre from 2.30pm.

8th - 16th March fifa (FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL DU FILM ANIMALIER) the international wildlife film festival is a pro-am one run by volunteers. It is prestigious indeed. There are separate prizes for amateur movie makers. The festival's closing date was 31st October 2007. The long lead time is because once the short list is chosen they translate the scripts and record new commentaries in French which are played with the films when shown to the public in the festival's home town of Albert in the Somme area of France. Fees £3 for first entry, £2 for each subsequent entry. Festival will be on 5th October. No time limit. Categories: Documentary, Drama/Story, Comedy, Travelogue/Holiday, Animation and Unclassified. There is also a one-minute competition. Entrants must be resident, a member of a club or attending a college in East Sussex, West Sussex or The Channel Islands. Those under 18 at the closing date are eligible for a Junior trophy, those between 18 and 25 at the closing date are elegible for a Youth trophy. Details: here.
